Back From Philly

I had a wonderful and safe trip to Philly and now I'm back home! I will definitely recount my "adventures" but right now I have to cram for a test tomorrow. Ah, the life of a college student!

I am really excited though because yesterday I booked a trip to Austin, Texas, with one of my best friends for January! It should be a blast, and I can't wait to start planning.

The only downfall is I'm starting to run low on money and I have some credit cards I NEED to pay off. That means I'm going to work like crazy these next few months, especially during winter break when I don't have school! I'm going to schedule myself for 5 12 hour shifts a week, and one 8 hour shift. I'm sure I'll get called off, but I'm looking to pick up lots of work and make some extra money!

I ran/walked 2 miles yesterday...for a total of 2 miles this week. I didn't work out at all in Philly and I ate a lot of bad food. It definitely shows in my pics. Oh well, today I'm going to have a healthy lunch and am crock potting it for dinner tonight. Home cooking is always better!

Off to study...Philly update to come soon.

Adult Truths

Today I attempted Week Four, Day Three of the Couch to 5K training plan.

The run today was supposed to look like this:
5 min warmup walk
3 mins run
1.5 mins walk
5 mins run
2.5 mins walk
3 mins run
1.5 mins walk
5 mins walk
5 mins cool down walk

Unfortunately, I have just started running outside as opposed to the treadmill so I am having a hard time adjusting to the differences. Therefore, my running got spotty and I could not complete the plan all the way. I did my best and I will go out there again tomorrow, keep running until I can easily do this routine, and work my way up to the next week.

Today's run was 2 miles in 27:16.

Total miles this week: 2

I'm also trying to save money..so I'm trying to have have 3-4 days a week where I do not spend money. I'm also trying to pick up more shifts at work. My bank account is dwindling and it's holiday season!

Total no spend days this week: 1

I saw this on one of my favorite blogs...Iowa Girl Eats and I had to repost it!

My first 5K..

My first 5K was a Mud Run that I did with a group of nursing students. I tend not to count it as a "real" 5K because there were so many obstacles and waiting in lines to complete the obstacles that there was a lot less running than a regular 5K.

However, it was my first experience at any type of racing event, and I completely fell in love! The free beer after the run definitely helped!

My team and I spent the night before the race making costumes and decided to go in fully make up'ed out. It was such a fun experience with a great group of people, and it really inspired me to continue training for my first "real" 5K...

Mind you, I have never been a runner. Even when I was younger and did dance growing up until high school, I still hated the days we had to run track. I have learned to embrace it and want to overcome my obstacles with running.
The RuNs

The last obstacle!

All muddy!

We did it!

After our "showers"

I ran the Del Mar Mud Run in 49 minutes...obviously that is very slow, but since there was so much waiting around and climbing through mud puddles, I'm hoping to reasonably run a regular 5K in 40 minutes or less. I realize that is still very slow, but for a beginner like me, it would be wonderful to just be able to run the entire race without stopping to walk.

Upcoming Travel Plans

One of my lifelong loves has always been traveling. Well, I lie. I hated the thought of traveling when I was growing up. I had no desire to see the world. However, I took a trip to Thailand when I was 19 and it was literally the best experience of my life. I will never forget it and yearn to explore and experience the carefreeness and adventure once more.

Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of money right now. I'm a broke college student with credit cards and loans to pay back. However, I do have some financial aid saved up and I am working part time. Traveling is something I just have to do to live my life to the fullest. Therefore, I'm trying to work my way through the 50 states while I have a limited budget. Hopefully, in a couple of years I can expand to international travel when I have some money saved up.

With that being said, I leave to Philly next weekend and am SO excited. I have to write a separate post about things I want to see and do during my short stay there.

I am also one lucky girl because my dad offered me a 5 day trip to anywhere in the United States...covered by him. I wanted to go to a big city like Boston or Chicago, but then my classmate told me the weather was -7 when she was there last December. I'm from San Diego, and I freak out in 55 degree weather. The colder cities will have to wait until spring/summer for me...

Therefore, I decided to visit Nashville. It's not going to be too cold there, and it definitely has a lot of history/sights to see. I'm so excite that I will be visiting two states in the next two months...I'm finally starting to live my dream and see the world!

Starting Fresh!

I'm one of those bloggers who have had a million blogs but have never stuck to one. This time, I want to stick with one blog.

As the title implies, I'm a wanderlust who wants to run. But that's not all I am. I love to travel, cook, read, shop, go out with friends, craft, and attempt to run. This blog will not focus on one area, but on all things that interest me in life.

I've been attempting to run for a while now. I'm on week four of C25K and I just ran 5 minutes straight for the first time in my life. That's how bad the situation is, but as you can see, I'm working on it. My goal is to run a marathon one day. But I gotta start with the 5k first! Let's just say I have lofty goals.

I have already "ran" my first 5K but I wouldn't say it really counts because it was the Del Mar Mud Run, and there were a lot of obstacles, and walking mixed in with running. It was SUCH a fun experience with my team, and I can't wait to do more 5k's. However, I want to actually run an entire 5K without stopping. Then, I want to work on my times. And, I want to do A LOT of them...and move up to 10K's, half marathons, and marathons...all in due time.

I also aspire to travel...in fact, I've booked my first trip on my own for next week! I'm going to Philly...and it will be my first time flying alone. My goal is to visit all 50 states...not to mention to travel to exotic countries.

I also want to learn how to cook and bake more...I've been working on it...but I want to chronicle it.

Life is good...with goals to shoot for, it makes things so much more fun!
